INTERFACIAL FRACTURE TOUGHNESS OF UNCONVENTIONAL SPECIMENS: SOME KEY ISSUES

نویسندگان

چکیده

Laboratory specimens used to assess the interfacial fracture toughness of layered materials can be classified as either conventional or unconventional. We call a specimen cut from unidirectional composite laminate an adhesive joint between two identical adherents. Assessing using is common practice guided by international test standards. In contrast, we term unconventional resulting from, for instance, bimaterial joints, fiber metal laminates, laminates with elastically coupled behavior residual stresses. This paper deals and highlights key issues in determining their toughness(es) based on tests. Firstly, mode decoupling partitioning approaches are briefly discussed tools extract pure-mode toughnesses that experiences mixed-mode during testing. Next, elaborate effects bending-extension coupling thermal stresses often appearing reviewing major mechanical models consider those effects. Lastly, reviews our previous analytical surpass state-of-the-art they while also offer partitioning.

Interfacial fracture toughness of Pb-free solders

Increasing environmental concerns and pending government regulations have pressured microelectronic manufacturers to find suitable alternatives to Pb-bearing solders traditionally used in electronics packaging. Over recent years, Sn-rich solders have received significant attention as suitable replacements for Pbbearing solders. Understanding the behavior of intermetallics in Sn-rich solders is ...

Interfacial Fracture Toughness Measurement and Improvement for Composite/metal Interfaces

Adhesive bonding is enlarging its application range as a practical method for the joining of dissimilar materials in automotives, aircrafts, microelectronics and medical devices industries replacing conventional joining techniques such as welding, bolting and riveting [1-5]. Especially for joining of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites to other structural materials such as metal, traditio...

Behavior of Concrete round Double Beam Fracture Toughness Test Specimens

Laboratory fracture toughness tests of concrete using wedge-loaded round double beam specimens with a length to diameter ratio of 2:1 show two distinctly different specimen behaviors. Either the crack remains in the plane of the notch, and a valid test result can be obtained, or there is lateral cracking around mid-length which invalidates the results. Results of a controlled study show that th...

Fracture toughness of graphene.

Perfect graphene is believed to be the strongest material. However, the useful strength of large-area graphene with engineering relevance is usually determined by its fracture toughness, rather than the intrinsic strength that governs a uniform breaking of atomic bonds in perfect graphene. To date, the fracture toughness of graphene has not been measured. Here we report an in situ tensile testi...

Effect of Bleaching Agent on Interfacial Fracture Toughness of Resin Composite-dentin Interfaces

The effect of bleaching on fracture toughness (Kic) of existing composite-dentin interfaces was assessed using the notchless triangular prism (NTP) specimen fracture toughness test. Human molars and premolars (<6 months old) were wet ground on 600 SiC to obtain 4x4x4x4mm triangular prisms with buccal or lingual exposed for bonding. Buccal or lingual dentin surfaces, ground on 600 grit sandpaper...
